Mission Statement

Flanders LiedFest is committed to restoring the art song (Lied) to a central place in the Flemish and international music scene. We believe that the song is one of the most refined and essential forms of musical art—with enduring artistic and social relevance.

International and Young Talent
In collaboration with renowned artists from the international song world, we organize high-caliber concerts. We also provide a stage for the most promising young artists of today. Beyond performance opportunities, we offer young talent masterclasses led by leading specialists. This creates opportunities for young musicians to deepen their expertise in the genre. For these masterclasses, we work closely with the song class of the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and with other conservatories in the Benelux. In this way, we actively invest in the future of the art song.

Focus on Flemish and Belgian Composers

Flanders LiedFest actively promotes the work of local composers. We rediscover the rich heritage of the Flemish and Belgian song repertoire while simultaneously building bridges to the present. Each season, we create and present at least one new song cycle by a contemporary Flemish or Belgian composer.

Digital Visibility

To make the song genre accessible to a broader audience, we invest in high-quality digital content. Through concert recordings, podcasts, and interviews, we increase the online presence of the art song and bring it closer to today’s and tomorrow’s audiences.

Partnerships and Patronage

We build sustainable collaborations with cultural and societal partners. At the same time, we are developing a structured patronage program to guarantee the long-term development of Flanders LiedFest.

Flanders LiedPrijs (Flanders Song Prize)

With the annual Flanders LiedPrijs, we honor a personality who has made an exceptional contribution to the art of song—as an artist, researcher, promoter, or bridge-builder.
